The JAS 39 Gripen C is the first export-oriented version of Sweden’s Gripen multirole fighter, entering service in 2002. Developed by Saab, the C-variant introduced NATO compatibility, expanded weapons integration, upgraded avionics, and aerial refueling capability, significantly increasing the aircraft’s operational reach.
Between the mid-2000s and 2010s, the Gripen C underwent several modernization programs that enhanced its sensors, electronics, and mission flexibility. Optimized for air-to-air combat, ground attack, and reconnaissance, the aircraft became a key component of both Swedish air defense and international operations.
