The HSwMS Gotland is a Swedish Gotland-class diesel-electric submarine, and arguably the most famous submarine in the world for what it did during a 2005 NATO exercise. Operating in near-silence on its Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system, it repeatedly penetrated the USS Ronald Reagan carrier strike group’s defenses, “sinking” the carrier multiple times. The US Navy was so impressed they leased the Gotland for two years to train against it. A legend in modern naval history.
