155 GH 52 APU — Finland’s Most Advanced Towed Artillery Piece
Designated 155 K 98 (155 mm kenttäkanuuna 1998) by the Finnish Defence Forces, the 155 GH 52 APU is a landmark in modern towed artillery — a Finnish-engineered 155mm/52-calibre gun-howitzer that combines long-range firepower with self-mobility. This premium 3D-printed scale model captures every angular detail of this rare and formidable piece in display-ready form.
Originally developed in 1998 by Oy Tampella AB (now Patria Vammas Systems Oy), the 155 GH 52 APU builds on the proven 155 K 83 platform with major enhancements — most notably a 78 kW Deutz auxiliary diesel engine that allows the gun to reposition itself over short distances without a tow vehicle. All 56 units in Finnish service carry this APU; export variants for Egypt do not.
The gun is operated by the Kainuu Artillery Regiment (Kainuu Brigade, Vuosanka) and the Artillery Brigade (Niinisalo, Pohjankangas), with additional training conducted at Rovajärvi in Lapland. In Finnish doctrine, each readiness brigade fields an organic artillery regiment of two fire battalions — 18 guns each, in three six-gun batteries — for a total of 36 cannons per brigade. Finland fields three such readiness brigades.
