T-55A — The Cold War Workhorse That Refused to Retire
Born in the Soviet Union in 1957 and still standing on Finnish soil today, the T-55A is one of the most produced and widely deployed tanks in history. This premium 3D-printed scale model captures the distinctive silhouette of the Finnish T-55A — the anti-radiation-protected variant that formed the backbone of Finland’s armoured force through the Cold War — in precise, display-ready detail.
Run your eye along the low-profile hull, the wide tracks with their rubber-metal joints, and the commanding turret that once swept the Finnish landscape during Cold War exercises. Finland received 138 T-55As from the USSR between 1962 and 1972, using them to finally retire the aging T-34-85 and Pz.IV. The T-55A differed from the base model with its enhanced anti-radiation protection — a defining feature of the era. By the late 1980s, Finland gave them a second life, upgrading them to the domestic T-55M standard with a new fire control system, laser rangefinder, and Bofors smoke grenade launchers. They remain in Finnish service to this day as training vehicles.
